The editorial team of CSI-NSIT Students’ Branch presents to you the fifth edition of its quarterly newsletter, Bits ‘n’ Bytes. While the first two editions primarily focused on spreading awareness about Open Source and related tools, the third and the fourth focused on Web Development and Digital Security respectively. This edition, however, diversifies the focused area as we delve into topics like Animation and Visual Effects. The article on ‘Careers in Animation’ would hopefully be an interesting read. The article ‘Lord of the Rings Trilogy - A Triumph of Special Effects ’ introduces some of most powerful techniques of Visual Effects. Open Source does feature in the form of ‘Elephant’s Dream—An Open Source Dream’, an upcoming medium of communication. Also included is part 3 of the series ‘Buyer’s Guide to Assembling A Desktop PC’. The ‘IRC Prelude’ introduces one of most powerful ways of communication over the web. Also included are the experiences of Tarun Tandon, as a member and the current Vice-Chairperson of CSI-NSIT. Open Source does feature in the form of Open Source alternatives for the most popular proprietary software and a guide for installing Ubuntu Linux OS alongside an existing Windows OS (Dual-Boot).

The editorial team of CSI-NSIT would like to proudly present the second volume of our quarterly magazine “Bits 'n' Bytes”. The first volume, an online version, was based on ‘Open Source’ and saw an enthusiastic response from students. In sync, the second volume also focuses on open source tools. Also included in the magazine: experiences of Manusheel Gupta, alumnus of NSIT, reports of the major events organized by CSI-NSIT, questions to test your programming skills along with handy links.
We would be highly obliged to have your endorsements and make this enterprise meet its goals.
We proudly present to you the premiere issue of CSI–NSIT Newsletter. The sole aim of this journal is “Disseminating technical awareness amongst the students of NSIT”; one of the leading technical colleges all over India. This newsletter will focus on a galaxy of themes apprising students and helping them build their outlook on various technologies rampant in present day market and which are yet to rise.
